History


	1984 March Everything has started at Meclisi Mebusan Street Nr:323 in Orya Han. Borusan Oto, being established as a partnership of Giwa GmbH and Borusan Holding, has been carrying the characteristics of a leading company in the sector. Starting its business life as the BMW importer in 1984, Borusan Oto carries the title of the oldest distributor without any change in its management structure in Turkey.

	1985 February Borusan Oto Avcılar After-Sales facilities were inaugurated. This modern, beyond-the-century premises offered the opportunity of fast servicing without an appointment – a first in the sector - for minor repairs and maintenances.

	1985 March The first dealer Ege Servis starts its operations in Izmir.

	1985 July Kosifler Oto, the second dealer, opens in Istanbul.

	1986 September The Chairman of the Board of BMW AG Mr. von Kuenheim visits the Izmir Fair.

	1991 February The booklet "We can save the nature with 50 simple measures" was printed by Borusan Oto and distributed to 180 schools.

	1991 May The first independent customer service department in the automotive sector was established within Borusan Oto.

	1991 September The service consultancy concept was implemented in our company.

	1991 December Borusan Oto was awarded the "Special Environment Award" by Nokta magazine.

	1992 January For the first time a customer satisfaction survey was conducted.

	1992 February The company was awarded the "1992 Environment Friendly Award" by Environment and Woodlands Protection Society of Turkey.

	1992 September The after-sales department of Borusan Oto Avcılar started its operation.

	1992 October The first electronic parts catalogue.

	1992 December Borusan Oto Motorcycle Department was established.

	1993 The Chairman of the Board of BMW AG Mr. von Kuenheim and the two monuments of Turkish industry Mr. Sakip Sabancı and Mr. Vehbi Koç at the inauguration of Borusan Oto Avcılar

	1998 January Borusan Oto, continued its operations as two separate companies, Borusan Otomotiv İthalat ve Dağıtım A.Ş.and Borusan Oto Servis ve Ticaret A.Ş. From this onwards Borusan Oto started to operate as the retailer and Borusan Otomotiv as the importer in the automobile sector.

	1998 March Turkey’s first emergency service motorcycle was introduced.

	1998 August Borusan Otomotiv took over the importership of Land Rover.

	1998 October "Fiftyx50 Challenge" team, representing the 50th anniversary of the Land Rover visited the Child Protection Society in Istanbul.

	1999 June Borusan Oto Adana-Mersin, started its operation on 11.200 m² area.

	1999 November Teknik Oto, started its operations in Bursa.

	1999 December BG magazine replaced the Boto Magazine.

	1999 December Köprülü Oto becomes our Konya dealer.

	2000 September The “boxer café”, which is at the upper floor of the Borusan Oto Kuruçeşme Motosiklet Merkezi, with its minimalist style, elaborately selected music and comfortable design and Bosphorus view, was presented to our customers.

	2000 October Borusan Oto opens up its new extended facilities of 4.500 m² on the same land, with its new 6 Land Rover capacity and 25 used car capacity showroom, display area for 50 vehicles, a spacious vehicle delivery section and furthermore supplementary parts warehouse.

	2000 December The year 2000 ends with “firsts” : BMW automobile sales exceed 4.000 units, and Land Rover attains the title of best-selling 4x4 brand.


	2001 January Borusan Otomotiv donates to the Anti-Smoking Foundation, with the revenue of optional smokers package in BMW automobiles.

	2001 January Offering superior products to its customers with high quality services, Borusan Otomotiv now presents new alternatives other than purchasing. Borusan Otomotiv also offers long term vehicle renting services.

	2001 Borusan Oto Gaziantep showroom opens its doors in the south-eastern Anatolian Region.

	2001 A new brand, a new excitement : MINI among us!

	2002 May Borusan Otomotiv and Borusan Oto adapts 6 Sigma continues quality improvement methodology.

	2002 Member of the Board and Director of Sales and Marketing of BMW Group, Dr. Ganal visits Borusan Oto Avcılar, Borusan Oto İstinye and Kosifler Oto Bostancı.

	2002 June Borusan Oto İstinye was officially opened with an outstanding ceremony. BMW Group was represented by Regional Director Mr. Paysen, Area Manager Mr. Wallisch and Mr. Coon. His Excellency Prince Leopold of Bavaria, as well as well-known business and media representatives like Mr. Bülent Eczacıbaşı, Mr. Faruk Sürer, Mr. Hıncal Uluç and Mr. M. Ali Birand, the architect of the delaership Mr. Metin Hepgüler and the Sculptor of the Obelisk Mr. Schlamminger also joined the opening ceremony.

	2002 July Borusan Oto Avcılar and Borusan Oto Ankara reached an over-90% success at the audit of BMW Dealer Quality Management (QMA).

	2002 September Chief Designer of BMW Group, Mr. Chris Bangle visits the inauguration of Kosifler Oto Bostancı which is the first multiplex showroom with after sales and sales services.

	2002 October The second place in Ankara: Borusan Oto Çankaya started its operation in the city center with its showroom, boutique, motorcycle service and automobile delivery place.

	2003 June Borusan Otomotiv brought new standards into the used car market. The company with its “Approved Used Cars” signed its brand name under another innovation.

	2004 January Borusan Otomotiv celebrates its 20th anniversary. The BMW AG and Borusan Otomotiv partnership, which was launched in 1984, first introduced the genuine BMW passion to Turkey. Then Land Rover and MINI…These 20 years have witnessed the innovations and contributions of Borusan Otomotiv to the market.

	2004 April BMW Rider Academy was opened. BMW Rider Academy, constructed on the base of BMW Motorrad standards, started its operations in May, 2004 offering beginner and advanced level programs to motorcycle fans.

	2004 November Prime Minister of The Republic of Turkey, Tayyip Erdoğan visits the Borusan Otomotiv stand at the Autoshow 2004.

	2005 The Director of BMW Group V5-OE region Mr. Berning visits Borusan Otomotiv during The Big Five meeting which brought together the largest markets in the region.

	2005 April Borusan Otomotiv engaged into another “first” by initiating daily or long term BMW motorcycle rental service to the motorcycle fans.

	2005 June Borusan Otomotiv again marks its signature on another innovation. The world-wide known Land Rover Experience Center starts its operatin in Istanbul as the first 4x4 track, where the driving programs were going to be carried out.

	2005 June Borusan Otomotiv gained a great success with its brand websites; BMW.com.tr was awarded with "Altın Örümcek (Gold Spider)" Award in the automobile category and Landrover.com.tr became the third in the same category.

	2006 March Borusan Otomotiv started its Mobile Portal application for BMW-Motosiklet.com

	2007 January Borusan Oto Birlik starts its operation as the third outlet in Ankara.
